Clementines for Christmas                                                                                                                          ENNISCORTHY -11 December 2009 to 6 January 2010

Wexford artist Mary Wallace has a collection of smaller works on show at Enoteca d'Alba, the Italian winebar in Enniscorthy in the run-up to Christmas. “ When Antonio asked me to paint a Christmas exhibition of small paintings for Enoteca d'Alba, I immediately thought to paint clementines, tangerines and satsumas. When I was a small child I always found a clementine or a satsuma at the bottom of my Christmas stocking and this tradition continues for my own children to this day. In these small works there is a hint of sunshine from the citrus groves of Calabria or maybe it's the warm Christmas glow by the fireside as you sip a cup of vin brulé.” - Mary. There are nine 'little gems' to choose from and any one would make the perfect stocking filler or Christmas gift.

Mary Wallace realises her artistic vision through paint. Her images are surreal having a fantasy-like quality; capturing the essence of her subject. “I imagine an orange grove full of ripe fruit suffused in golden sunshine. Although is it paint I want you to smell the citrus oil, be tempted to pluck a fruit from the tree and taste it right away.”

Gilly is a figurative sculptor working mainly with the human figure in bronze, ciment fondue and other medium including drawing. She says “It is important that we sometimes look closer at ourselves and glimpse the beauty of the bodyline; and smile at the understanding we have of the smallest change of expression or movement”.
